Catholic youth camp aids Beaufort, Jasper county residents in need
Students from throughout the country participated in 17th annual Catholic HEART Work Camp this week, helping Beaufort and Jasper county residents with projects from landscaping to building wheelchair ramps.
More than 350 volunteers arrived Sunday and worked through Thursday in the camp, coordinated by United Way of the Lowcountry. More than 100 adults joined the young people, with an adult signed to each project group.
Work focused on needs of elderly or disabled residents and included home repairs, painting and yard work.
Volunteers worked from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.
