Beaufort City Council to propose annual vehicle fee
Beaufort City Council will propose a $35 yearly fee for each vehicle registered in the city as part of its capital projects and public safety initiative.
If approved, the fee would be in effect through June 30, 2019, and would fund current and future capital needs, including vehicles and other equipment for the City Public Works and Public Safety departments.
Vehicle owners would be billed with a County Vehicle Tax Notice, according to the proposed ordinance that would go into effect July 1, if passed.
The first vote on the fee will be Tuesday. The second reading that could lead to approval and adoption is scheduled for June 28.
Council meets for a work session at 5 p.m. Tuesday and for its regular meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1911 Boundary St.
