Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Department firefighters were greeted at the station Sunday morning by a 5-foot alligator.

The department shared a photo of the trespassing reptile on their Facebook page later in the day, joking that the crocodilian dropped by “to say thank you” for their rescue of another alligator from a Beaufort County YMCA pool in Port Royal last month.

After posing for a few photos, the alligator was relocated to the Cypress Wetlands in Port Royal by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, according to the department.
