Beaufort man, 27, killed in US 21 wreck

One person was killed Saturday when the car he was driving ran off US 21 and wrecked, the SC Highway Patrol reported.

The 2009 Honda Accord was heading north on US 21 around 10:55 p.m. when it ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree, Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

The identity of the driver, who was the only occupant of the car, was not immediately available. A preliminary Highway Patrol report listed him as a 27-year-old male and Beaufort resident.

Collins said the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, which remains under investigation.
