3 at large following Burton Food Lion armed robbery

Three suspects in an armed robbery reported at a Burton grocery store are still at large after employees reported being robbed Wednesday night.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating the robbery that happened at the Shanklin Road Food Lion around 11 p.m., according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies were on their way to the scene after receiving a call of an activated alarm when the grocery store’s security company advised dispatchers that employees were being held up by three males at gunpoint, the release said.

As deputies arrived, the men ran into the nearby woods, and a perimeter for K-9 units was set up to search for them.

During interviews, the store’s employees told investigations that the three men were all African-American and were armed with handguns, the release said.

The three robbed them of an undisclosed amount of money.

None of the three suspects were located by the K-9 units.

No one was injured during the incident.

One of the suspects was wearing a black T-shirt with dark pants and a gray shirt wrapped around his head. The second was described as wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans with blue gloves and a black mask. The third suspect was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt with dark pants, yellow gloves and a black mask, the release said.
