Beaufort-Port Royal firefighters receive federal grant for breathing equipment
Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Department received a federal grant to buy new breathing equipment, according to a city news release.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency gave the department $217,724. The fire department will contribute $21,772.
The money will buy 34 new self-contained breathing units to replace older ones.
The Federal Assistance to Firefighters grant is being incorporated into next year’s budget, the release said. The money speeds up what had been a 10-year department plan to replace protective gear.
