Jasper County hopes to have new schools superintendent in place by July

The Jasper County School District is narrowing down its search for a new superintendent.

On May 24, the school board will review the more than 50 candidates who applied for the job and select finalists for interviews, which will be held the week of June 6, according to chairman Tedd Moyd.

The board has already held an online survey, two public forums in Hardeeville and Ridgeland, and six other sessions with school and county officials, teachers and students to guide the decision.

The district hopes to have a new superintendent in place by July 1.

Earlier this year, the district selected McPherson & Jacobson LLC, a recruitment and development firm, to assist in the superintendent search.

Larry Heath, a veteran educator and experienced superintendent, is serving as interim superintendent in Jasper County until the board makes a final hire to replace Vashti Washington, who resigned Dec. 31.
