Beaufort County School District wins awards for excellence in financing

Finance staffers from the Beaufort County School District have earned a pair of national awards for excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The first award, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, recognized the school district’s 2015 annual financial report. The second recognition, the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, honors government budgets that succeed simultaneously as policy documents, financial plans, operations guides and communications devices.

Phyllis White, the district’s chief finance and operations officer, credited her staff with the two achievements, including financial services officer Tonya Crosby, finance director Lori Mock, internal controls director Reggie Murphy and budget analyst Louis Ackerman.

Superintendent Jeff Moss said that the two national honors reflected the overall excellence of White and her team and noted that, during 2015, the district refinanced $91.8 million in bonds and saved taxpayers more than $9 million.
