3 people, dog hurt in Burton crash

Three people were taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital on Tuesday after a crash involving a pickup truck and an SUV that rolled over several times at the intersection of Parris Island Gateway and Robert Smalls Parkway.

The crash was reported around 12:30 p.m., and firefighters of the Burton Fire District were initially told all occupants inside the vehicle were trapped, according to a Fire District news release.

Instead, all of the occupants were able to get out of the vehicles by themselves.

The SUV had rolled until it came to a rest near a power pole. The truck was also heavily damaged, the release said.

The three who were taken to the hospital suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

A dog that was also injured during the wreck was taken to a local veterinarian.

Traffic was slowed for approximately 20 minutes at the intersection, and the power to the pole was shut off as emergency crews worked.
