Boundary Street lane closure Wednesday caused by steel plate

A steel plate covering a hole on Boundary Street shifted Wednesday, causing the lane to be closed much of the morning, a city news release said.

The closure lasted from about 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The plate was patching the road after work on a waterline at Boundary Street and Greenlawn Drive.

A wreck at the intersection Wednesday morning blocked the roadway for about 30 minutes while the cars were towed, Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Chief Reece Bertholf said. Traffic was routed through the adjacent liquor store parking lot. No injuries were reported.
