Late blight spotted on tomatoes in Beaufort County

A destructive and infectious disease affecting tomatoes and Irish potatoes was found this week on tomatoes in a home garden in Beaufort County.

Late blight disease can appear with symptoms such as large dark-green or gray spots on leaves surrounded by a lighter halo ring, showing where the fungus is active, according to a Clemson news release.

The diseased plants in Beaufort County were destroyed.

Late blight can be controlled by a number of chemicals available to commercial growers including Presidio, Revus Top or Ariston, the release said.
