A vacant Lady’s Island building is getting a new restaurant with a familiar flavor.

Beaufort Mexican restaurant La Nopalera will add a location in the space vacated by Mucho Margaritas, behind Walgreens off of Sams Point Road and Sea Island Parkway.

The new restaurant could open as early as May, owner and manager Abraham Cruz said Friday. All of the restaurant’s furnishings are being shipped from Mexico and could affect the timetable, Cruz said.

In recent weeks, the building has gotten a fresh look. Commodes sat outside the entrance Friday while an employee cleaned the facade on a ladder.

Cruz said the growth on Lady’s Island and customers asking for another location fueled the decision to open another restaurant.

La Nopalera has operated in Beaufort on Ribaut Road since 1998. A fire in May 2013 closed the restaurant for about six months.

The renovations included new wiring and a new bar area.

The new location on Lady’s Island is roughly the same size and will serve the same menu, Cruz said.

Mexican restaurants have long operated in the Lady’s Island building owned by the Dore family. Before Mucho Margaritas, the business was a San Jose.

Port Royal coffee shop offers sneak peak

A new Port Royal coffee shop opening within the next couple weeks is offering an early look.

Pluff Mudd Coffee Company will hold an Easter egg hunt at its location at 1632A Paris Ave. and the nearby Cypress Wetlands at 1 p.m. Sunday. The event will include samples of cold brew and drop coffee.

Pluff Mudd, started by Nick Gregoire and business partner Eric Ligeikis, will also rent bicycles via Gregoire’s Slowcountry Rentals.

Gregoire has operated the bike rental business from his backyard and had looked for a possible storefront along the Spanish Moss Trail before selecting the Port Royal location.

New name, location for print and Web business

The grand opening for SK Signs and Designs will be 4:30 p.m. March 30 at 1002 8th St. in Port Royal.

The event will include refreshments, raffles and entertainment. The company, formerly SK & Associates, offers signs, banners, Web design and social media management.
