Beaufort man charged in connection with October Port Royal shooting
A Beaufort man has been arrested in connection with a home-invasion shooting that occurred in early October at a Port Royal apartment complex.
Phillip Ronald Smalls Jr., 23, was charged Friday with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and first-degree burglary in connection with the Oct. 5 shooting of a former Marine, according to a Port Royal Police Department news release.
According to a WSAV report, the victim was shot and injured while fending off two men who entered his August on Southside Apartment.
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, the police department’s release said.

Smalls was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing.
