Beaufort County to host Teacher Career Fair
The Beaufort County School District will hold a teacher career fair on Saturday to interview more than 160 candidates for classroom teaching jobs.
The fair is scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Bluffton High School, 12 H.E. McCracken Cir., Bluffton.
The district began the school year with 46 vacancies, including 17 classroom teachers, down from 70 vacant staff and teacher positions the previous year, according to head of human resources Alice Walton.
Walton attributed some of that improvement to the district holding a career fair mid-March in 2015, rather than at the end of May.
Between March and August 2015, the district had hired 295 teachers, up from 170 in the whole of the 2014-2015 school year.
The school district currently has 36 teaching vacancies, spokesman Jim Foster said. While about one in 10 teachers left the school district at the end of the 2014-2015 year, Foster said officials are anticipating higher retention this year.
Interviews for Saturday’s career fair are by appointment only. To schedule an interview, call recruiting coordinator Becky Randazzo at 843-322-2334, and then complete an external application at www.applitrack.com/beaufort.onlineapp.
