A car crashed into Subway in Beaufort during Thursday night’s rain.

A Buick traveling west on Boundary Street left the road and slammed into the left side of the sandwich shop adjacent to an Exxon about 9:30 p.m. The driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution but did not appear to suffer serious injury, Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Chief Reece Bertholf said.

The car left a hole in the building and moved a freezer inside, Bertholf said.

The wreck is a reminder to drive carefully during poor weather and through what is now a 35-mph speed zone as part of the Boundary Street construction, he added.
