Wheelchair-bound man robbed in Burton

A pair of Burton brothers have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a man in a wheelchair on Saturday.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded about 9 p.m., and was able to locate and arrest suspects Lorenzo Green, 27, and Javontay Green, 23, who allegedly robbed the victim outside a restaurant in Burton’s Laurel Bay Crossing shopping center off Shanklin Road, the agency said.

The victim told deputies he was returning to his SUV in the parking lot of the shopping center when two men approached him. One of the men pointed a handgun at him and demanded he get into the SUV, but the victim refused even after the suspect racked a round into the chamber of his gun, the agency said.

The suspects then stole his keys, pushed him out of the way and drove off in his SUV, causing damage to a yard on Polite Drive as they fled. The victim was not injured, and returned to the restaurant to call 911.

Deputies arrested one suspect in the area of Roundabout Loop, and chased the second into a wooded area, where he was apprehended as well. No one was injured during the search, though deputies used a K-9 to stop the suspect who ran.

Deputies found a 9mm pistol and the victim’s wallet in Lorenzo Green’s pockets and charged him with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a handgun, possession of a weapon in the commission of a violent crime, fleeing to evade and maliscious injury to real property.

Javontay Green was charged with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, fleeing to evade and malicious injury to real property.

Anyone with information on other criminal activities involving Lorenzo and/or Javontay Green is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
