Burton fire crews rescued a driver using the jaws of life Saturday morning after a car crash on S.C.170, just south of the Broad River Bridge.

Firefighters responded to the wreck involving a Buick and a Chrysler just before 6 a.m. to find severe damage and the driver of the Buick trapped inside the vehicle, according to a release from the Burton Fire District.

The driver was cut out of the car and taken to Beaufort Memorial with potentially serious injuries.

Both southbound lanes of S.C 170 were blocked for about two hours while crews assisted the victims and cleared the road.

Beaufort County EMS and the BCSO also responded.
