Single-car wreck on SC 170 in Beaufort kills driver

One person is dead after running off the road and hitting a tree on Robert Smalls Parkway in Beaufort on Wednesday.

The single-car accident happened around 12:20 p.m., according to S.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres.

The driver of the vehicle, a Honda Passport, was not wearing a seat belt, Beres said.

The crash is still under investigation and the driver has not been identified.

Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon because he was still at the scene of the accident.
