Boundary Street speed limit dropping to 35 mph

The speed limit will drop on Boundary Street during the two-year project to redevelop the Beaufort thoroughfare.

From Neil Road to Ribaut Road, the speed limit will fall to 35 mph from 40 mph, effective Friday. Penalties for speeding in the work zone will be up to $200 fine and 30 days in jail, according to a city news release.

The Boundary Street work will create two lanes in both directions separated by a raised, landscaped median. The intersection of Robert Smalls Parkway and Boundary Street will be realigned.

First Street will be transformed to start at the realigned intersection to Hogarth Street and will include two lanes and on-street parking.

Crews will be working to create an underground bank to bury utility lines and in the coming weeks will be relocating water lines on Boundary Street, according to the release.
