Beaufort County school board to hold work sessions
The Beaufort County school board will meet for work sessions Friday and Saturday to discuss avenues to reduce the district's achievement gap, its budget and other issues.
The work sessions are scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. and 9 a.m., respectively, in the media center of the Beaufort County School District office, 2900 Mink Point Boulevard, Beaufort.
Friday's will begin with the swearing in of new District 2 board member David Striebinger, followed by a presentation of the district's plan to tackle its achievement gap. Possibilities include a four-day school week, extended school year and English language immersion academy.
On Friday, the board will also discuss drug testing, teacher retention, its budget and a legislative report.
Saturday's agenda includes a review of the board's policies and a discussion of the board's procedures for handling board and committee meetings and its standing rules of operations.
