School board calls special meeting to discuss sales-tax

The Beaufort County school board will hold a special-called meeting Feb. 1 to hear a presentation on possibilities to raise money for capital projects.

The presentation by the board's financial planner and bond attorney will cover the district's options for paying for new schools, improvements and other projects.

Superintendent Jeff Moss has already presented the school board's finance committee with a plan to ask voters to approve a sales-tax increase next year that would generate more than $480 million.

If approved, a 1 percent sales tax or local option sales tax would go before voters on the November referendum.

The board will meet at 4 p.m. at the district office on Mink Point Boulevard in Beaufort.
