Beaufort community celebrates 10 years of dinners in Washington Street Park

Each Friday night for the past 10 years, Beaufort residents have come together for community meals in Washington Street Park.

Volunteers and regular-goers will celebrate the milestone tonight during the 6 p.m. dinner. Organizers expect rain to keep some of the crowd away but still plan to share memories of the weekly event.

The free meals are organized by churches and volunteers. The dinners are open to anyone but have become a gathering place for the Northwest Quadrant neighborhood, coordinator Tammy Cargill said.

"It's just a slice of brotherhood," Cargill said. "Everybody comes together and for that time, we're family."
