The investigation is ongoing into the shooting of a Ridgeland man killed on Friday.

Alexander Smith, 40, of Ridgeland, was shot around 8 p.m. at the Midway Circle Mobile home Park on S.C. 170 and pronounced dead at Coastal Carolina Hospital, according to Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls and the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

No charges have been filed for his death, Chief Deputy Roy Hughes said Tuesday.

"We are pretty much familiar with the situation and have been talking with persons of interest in the shooting," Hughes said.

A suspect has been identified, but the Sheriff's Office is waiting on a decision from the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office to determine arrest charges, according to a statement released by the Sheriff's Office on Saturday.
