Police catch Beaufort purse-snatcher after foot chase
A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Beaufort in an effort to steal her purse.
Tamar Sumblin of St. Helena Island was charged with strong armed robbery and fleeing to evade arrest after an incident at the Dollar General on Ribaut Road around 2:50 p.m., according to a Beaufort Police Department news release.
Sumblin allegedly physically assaulted a woman and used force to take her purse, the release said.
Officers were able to arrest Sumblin after a short foot chase, and the woman's purse was recovered.
He is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center with a bond of over $10,000.
