Absentee voting open for Beaufort County school board special election
In-person absentee voting opened Monday in the special election for the Beaufort County school board's District 2 seat.
Absentee voters may cast ballots in the election at the Beaufort County elections offices from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday at 15 John Galt Road in Beaufort and 61-B Ulmer Road in Bluffton. In-person absentee will close at 5 p.m. at both locations the day before the scheduled special election on Feb. 2.
Retired school administrator and director of a women's grassroots organization Rebecca Cooper will face school district parent David Striebinger in the race for the district representing portions of Beaufort, Lady's Island and Fripp Island.
The seat was vacated by former school board chairman Bill Evans in October amid criticism of the board's handling of the controversial hiring and resignation of Darlene Moss, wife of superintendent Jeff Moss.
