Beaufort County Sheriff's Office seeks new leads in 1980 homicide, rape case
Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies are seeking information on a 36-year-old Beaufort cold case in which a man was shot multiple times in his parked van and his female passenger sexually assaulted by the suspect.
David Krulewicz, 18, was killed while parked in a wooded area off Old Salem Road in Beaufort Jan. 6, 1980 when a black male approached and fired through the passenger side of the vehicle, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
Krulewicz's passenger was then sexually assaulted by the suspect, who left the area.
A male DNA profile was developed for the suspect in 1999 that ruled out numerous persons of interest, the release said.
Investigators suspect this was not the suspect's first offense, but no similar incidents were reported at the time, the release said.
