High-speed Seabrook chase yields arrest, cocaine
A Dale man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly pointed a gun during an argument and then led deputies on a vehicle chase for over two miles.
Derrick Cornelius Polite, 43, was arrested after deputies arrived on Trask Parkway in Seabrook around 2:30 a.m. following a report of a man with a gun, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
A witness told the deputies the driver of a blue Chrysler headed north on the parkway had the gun, the report said.
One deputy saw the vehicle moving slowly on the roadway and got into his cruiser to follow.
As the deputy followed, the Chrysler sped up and turned right onto Morgan Road, reaching speeds of above 90 miles an hour before it ran into a ditch, the report said.
Polite, the driver, was apprehended and 1.4 grams of cocaine were found inside the vehicle, the report said.
He was charged with fleeing to evade arrest, failure to stop when blue lights were deployed, driving under suspension, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and on a family court bench warrant.
Polite was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center and is being held on a bond of over $17,500.
