McDonald's fire third in week for Burton community
A fire at a local fast food restaurant early Saturday morning was the third fire in the Port Royal community of Burton in a week, officials say.
Firefighters responded to the fire at the McDonald's on Parris Island Gateway around 5 a.m. Saturday, according to Burton Fire District spokesman Dan Byrne. Employees had turned on the restaurant's cooking system when the fire started and called 911. Crews arriving on the scene found smoke coming from the roof of the building and a fire consuming the deep fryer system.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire but not before it caused damage to the restaurant's equipment. The building also sustained smoke damage, Byrne said. There were no injuries in the incident.
This is the third building fire this week for Burton fire crews, Byrne said.
