Update: Man hospitalized after wreck on SC 170 in Beaufort

Both lanes of SC 170 in Beaufort were closed for about 30 minutes after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday sent one man to the hospital.

The accident, which involved an SUV and a Ford Mustang, occurred around 2:30 p.m. just before Castle Rock Road near the Ashton Pointe apartment complex.

After the collision, "the SUV caught fire," Burton Fire District spokesman Dan Byrne said.

Emergency crews quickly put out the blaze, and a man driving the SUV was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital to be treated for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Byrne said.

The driver of the Mustang was not injured. Neither drivers' identity was released.
