A Burton man is behind bars after a foot chase and stun gun deployment led to his arrest as he tried to outrun a deputy.

Wade McKeithen, 33, was arrested after a Beaufort County Sheriff's deputy tried to pull him over for speeding on Roseida Road on Tuesday morning, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

McKeithen, driving a black Chevrolet Impala, sped up and left the roadway as he tried to turn on to County Shed Road. He then stopped in a ditch, the release said.

McKeithen got out of the Impala and wrestled the deputy before running away.

The deputy eventually caught up with him behind a residence on Kennedy Circle and used his stun gun because McKeithen refused to surrender, the release said.

A search of McKeithen yielded marijuana, crack cocaine, cocaine, oxycodone, hydromorphone, and suspected Xanax bars, the release said.

Inside the Impala, deputies found a semi-automatic pistol.

McKeithen was charged with speeding, failure to stop for blue lights, resisting arrest, unlawful carry of a handgun, simple possession of marijuana and separate charges of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, cocaine, oxycodone and hydromorphone.

He was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing.
