Christmas tree recycling now available

Beaufort County's 11 recycling centers are accepting Christmas trees in their yard-waste disposal bins this year to be converted to biofuel.

The county will not continue its annual Grinding of the Greens mulch program this year because very few residents were picking up the mulch created by the recycling, according to a county news release.

Hilton Head Island and Port Royal will continue the tree mulch program, however, with tree drop-off locations at the:

- Coligny Beach parking lot on Hilton Head

- Old Gullah Flea Market at U.S. 278 and Chamberlain Drive on Hilton Head

- Naval Heritage Park on Ribaut Road

Curbside Christmas tree pick up will be available for residents of the city of Beaufort and Sea Pines on Hilton head.

For locations and hours of county centers, go to http://www.bcgov.net/recycle or call 843-255-2736.
