Operation Holiday Heroes comes through for single mother of 3

This year has been tough on Jacki, a single mother raising three children on the wages she earns working at a local retail store.

She was able to pick up extra hours in order to put some money away for Christmas, but then her mother suffered a serious stroke, and every penny Jacki had went to cover out-of-pocket medical expenses and medications. And the time she missed caring for her mother caused her to get behind in all of her bills.

The local food pantry referred her to United Way. She was able to get assistance with her utility bill so there would be lights on the Christmas tree, and thanks to the community, Operation Holiday Heroes was able to ensure there would be presents under it.

Operation Holiday Heroes will be providing toys and food for a long list of families just like Jacki's, but it needs your help. To make monetary contributions for the purchase of toys and food vouchers, send a check made payable to Operation Holiday Heroes to: United Way of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 202, Beaufort, SC 29901. Donation can also be dropped off at the United Way office at 2266 Boundary St. in Beaufort, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New, unwrapped toys can be donated to Toys for Tots and brought to any of the following locations.
