Solicitor's Office announces partnership with US Attorney to target 'career' offenders + video

The 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office announced a partnership Thursday with U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles to prosecute area career criminals in federal court.

Solicitor Duffie Stone said one of his office's career criminal prosecutors will work with the US District Attorney's office in Columbia in an effort to target repeat offenders and possibly increase prison time.

Since it began its Career Criminal Prosecution Team in 2010, the Solicitor's Office has successfully prosecuted 427 hardened criminals, Stone said.

The partnership will allow prosecutors to combine resources and have access to federal penalties, particularly in relation to gun violations and historical drug charges, Stone said.
