Roommate turns in Burton meth lab suspect
Dennis Perkins of 10 Lemon Lane was arrested after Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant at a trailer home there and found chemicals commonly used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, a Sheriff's Office news release said.
Anthony Salisbury, 23, of Burton, Perkins' roomate, said he had no choice but to make the call to deputies.
"I primarily had to call the cops not out of hatred or anything, but it's a danger to me, my other roommate, who's like a brother to me, the kids in the neighborhood, other families. That stuff is dangerous, explosive and it can kill people just from smoking it. And it doesn't have any business being around here where kids are."
The chemicals were safely removed from the residence and area, the release said.
Perkins was arrested about 1:30 a.m. after deputies searching a second vacant mobile home found him sleeping there, the release said.
He is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
Additional criminal charges may follow, the release said.
