Body found near Morgan River identified as missing St. Helena man

The body of a man spotted by a boater off St. Helena Island on Sunday has been identified as 69-year-old Charles Israel Bryan.

Bryan was last seen Nov. 9 leaving his home on Reunion Road on St. Helena in his vehicle.

The vehicle was found abandoned that same day with its hazard lights flashing on Tom Fripp Road, and Bryan's body was in nearby Morgan River, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Days of searching for Bryan ended Nov. 13 with no results, Capt. Bob Bromage said.

Bryan's body was spotted near Eddings Point Road and Morgan Passage Lane, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

Due to the condition of his body, the cause of death has not yet been determined, according to a Sheriff's Office news release. The release said there were no signs of traumatic injuries that would lead investigators to suspect foul play. But they will continue to investigate circumstances of Bryan's death, the release said.

Anyone with information related to his death can call Investigator Jennifer Snyder at 843-255-3421 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
