UPDATE: Beaufort, Jasper counties under freeze watch

A freeze watch will be in effect from late tonight through Tuesday morning for Beaufort County, according to the National Weather Service.

The freezing temperatures are most probable from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to be about 31 degrees.

Parts of Jasper County, including Ridgeland, will be under a freeze warning Tuesday morning. The freeze is expected between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m., with widespread frost.

The weather service cautions that the cold temperatures could kill sensitive plants and damage unprotected plumbing. Residents are encouraged to shelter pets and livestock.
