Okatie man identified as victim of S.C. 170 crash

An Okatie man has been identified as the driver killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of S.C. 170 and Okatie Center Boulevard Thursday morning.

Robert Long, 67, died after the car he was driving was involved in a crash with a pickup around 11 a.m., according to the Beaufort County Coroner's Office.

Long pulled out of Okatie Center Boulevard in a 2007 Acura and was hit by a 2015 Dodge Ram that was traveling on S.C. 170, according to Lance Cpl. Hannah Wimberly of the SC Highway Patrol.

The truck struck the driver's side of Long's vehicle, she said.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, Wimberly said.

The crash shut down northbound traffic for nearly two hours, Bluffton Township Fire District Randy Hunter said.

Traffic reopened around 12:45 p.m., according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office traffic management department.
