School board to consider conducting second review of superintendent

At Tuesday's full meeting of the Beaufort County school board, member JoAnn Orischak broached the subject of an ethical conduct review for superintendent Jeff Moss' actions over the past few months.

Orischak reminded board members of former board chairman Bill Evans' comments from Sept. 21, the night the board announced the resignation of the superintendent's wife, Darlene Moss, amid public outrage that she'd been hired to a district job. At that meeting, Evans stated the board would "further review" the hiring and Moss' recent changes to the district's nepotism rule during his annual evaluation.

Though board members recently learned the 2014-15 review does not include the time period of the controversy, Orischak said she the board must not renege on its promise.

Board chair Mary Cordray said the board will discuss the possibility of a conduct review on Nov. 24, at the same meeting where it will complete Moss' 2014-15 evaluation.
