A Ridgeland community health center has won a $100,000 national award for its diabetes education programs and classes.
Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. won the "Innovations in Care Award" at the National Association of Community Health Centers' community health institute and expo held in August, according to a news release.
Part of the Becton Dickinson Helping Build Healthy Communities initiative, the award is given to community health centers that show innovative approaches in the prevention and treatment of diseases that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.
The center was given the award for its diabetes classes and self-management education programs designed for "at risk" patients.
