A St. Helena Island man was charged with assault and battery Saturday after he allegedly choked a driver and fell from a moving vehicle.
Edward Washington, 40, was arrested after deputies were called to Fripp Road around 5 p.m., according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
Washington, who was found lying on the side of the roadway, was already being treated by emergency personnel when deputies arrived, the report said.
Deputies called Washington's daughter, who returned to the scene with the driver of the car Washington had fallen from, the report said.

She told deputies she was being picked up by the male driver with two friends to go to a birthday party when her father came out of his house and told her she could not go, the report said.
The daughter and witnesses in the vehicle said Washington grabbed her arm and pulled while the male driver grabbed her other arm to keep her in the car.
Witnesses said Washington then got in the car and began choking the male driver, the report said.
As the driver began driving away, Washington stopped choking him.
Washington yelled at the driver to pull over so he could "beat" him, the report said, before he fell from the vehicle onto the pavement.
Washington was treated at Beaufort Memorial Hospital for scrapes and bruises, the report said.
He was later taken to he Beaufort County Detention Center and is being held on a $1,092 bond.
