Port Royal police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex Monday night that left one man injured, according to a department spokesman.
A 32-year-old man was shot in the chest at Southside Apartments on Southside Boulevard around 10 p.m. after he confronted a person who knocked on their door and ran away, Deputy Chief Ron Wekenmann said.
After the victim confronted the person, a struggle ensued and the man was shot. Several people in the complex called police, reporting they'd heard gunshots, he said.
Officers found the man lying in a pool of blood when they arrived. He was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment. The victim was in stable condition Tuesday, Wekenmann said.

The suspect ran from the area after the shooting. He was described as a black male wearing dark clothing by the victim's girlfriend; police have not been able to interview the victim, Wekenmann said.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
