Argument over pizza leads to Taser jolt

What started as an argument about pizza ended painfully for a Burton man Sunday after Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies were forced to use a Taser on him.

Five deputies responded to a Pine Crest Drive residence around 8:50 p.m. after a woman said her son kicked her door in after she'd locked herself in a bedroom during the argument, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

Once the door was kicked in, the woman's husband became involved and a physical altercation between he and her son followed, the report said.

As deputies were trying to get the son to calm down, he became agitated and began "swinging his arms and elbows," the report said.

One of the deputies was hit in the arm as other deputies attempted to handcuff the man.

After three knee strikes to the man's leg did nothing to subdue him, a Taser was used, the report said.

The man was taken to Beaufort County Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

He was then taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center on charges of resisting arrest and assault and battery, the report said.
