Beaufort's Southside Boulevard to receive new, mile-long sidewalk
A new sidewalk coming to Southside Boulevard in Beaufort's Mossy Oaks neighborhood is expected to be completed by the spring.
The city will build a sidewalk on the north side of the street, from Ribaut Road to Battery Creek Road, a mile-long stretch, according to a city news release. The work will include minor drainage improvements, relocating waterlines, grading, handicap improvements at all intersections and landscaping.
The project is under final review by the S.C. Department of Transportation and state permits are expected soon, public works director Lamar Taylor said in the Tuesday morning release.
Once permits are received, construction will go out to bid. Work could begin in December.
Final costs won't be known until a contract is awarded, but Beaufort County's transportation committee has committed $130,000 to the project, city manager Bill Prokop said in the release.
