A nearly 60-year-old Beaufort flower shop is back in business.

Bitty's Flower Shop, at 1202 Boundary St., will host a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 30. The store, which opened in its original location on Bay Street in 1957, was first owned by Jenny Green and later managed by Green's daughter, Loretta "Bitty" Brant.

Holly Hill native Tierney Stone has owned the business since June 30. She spent the summer giving the building a facelift.

"We took it back to its origins as a Southern cottage," Stone said. "It has a living room feel."

The shop's soft opening was Aug. 26.

"I can't keep flowers in the cooler, we've been so busy," she said.

But before she got to work, Stone had one special order to fill.

"The first two arrangements we made were for Ms. Green and Ms. Bitty," she said.

The former business owners gave Stone a token of their appreciation, too, bringing her "the most fabulous" five-pound box of chocolates.

"We are just head over heels in love with the store," she said.
