Spanish Moss Trail-related businesses face one more vote
Bike rentals, cafes and artists' studios could come to the Depot Road area near the Spanish Moss Trail if a proposal receives another passing vote from Beaufort City Council on Tuesday.
The measure allowing trail-related uses and art and music ventures in the limited industrial district near Depot Road received unanimous approval on a first reading Sept. 8.
Supporters envision some welcome redevelopment in an area that currently includes a construction business, coffee supply company and a plumber.
"We believe this is a very important piece of improvement for the trail, the neighborhood and the city as a whole," Friends of the Spanish Moss Trail director Dean Moss told council members earlier this month. "I think it will enhance all kinds of things in that area."
Also on Tuesday's agenda:
• First reading of an ordinance rezoning a residential area on Simms Street from medium-high density to high density
• The first reading of an amendment to the current fiscal year's budget
