Suspects being sought in Burton Wells Park shooting that injured 2
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is working to unravel how two men ended up in the Beaufort Memorial Hospital emergency department Thursday night with gunshot wounds.
The men came into the hospital around 9 p.m., saying they had been shot in the Burton Wells area, according to the Sheriff's Office. They were treated and able to tell investigators they were shot at Burton Wells Park.
The victims said they got out of their car when they saw four men in a gray mid-sized car. Someone in the first car then opened fire.
Investigators at the scene of the shooting found more than 25 cartridge casings of several sizes. They said the car occupied by the shooters was moving.
The victims provided no possible motive or identification for the suspects, the Sheriff's Office said. However, potential persons of interest -- meaning people who might provide information but who are not necessarily suspects -- have been identified, the office said.
One victim was treated and released, while the second remains in the hospital. His condition was not available.
