Volunteers to swarm local beaches, rivers for annual clean-up
Thousands of volunteers around South Carolina will flock to the state's beaches and rivers Saturday to participate in an annual litter and trash clean-up effort.
First organized in 1988 by the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the beach and river sweeps give communities opportunity to pitch in and keep local waterways clean.
Organizers encourage volunteers to bring plenty of drinking water. Also, remember to wear sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and clothes you get dirty.
Gloves and trash bags will be provided at each site.
