St. Helena Island man sentenced to 14 years after pleading guilty to attempted murder
A St. Helena Island man scheduled to go to trial Monday morning in connection with a 2014 shooting pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Lewis Melvin Johnson, 24, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime before a jury could be seated in his trial, according to a news release from the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Johnson was accused of forcing his way into a Seaside Road home and firing two shots at the home's resident following a disagreement over a stolen television. The man was not hit in the incident.
Circuit Court Judge Perry Gravely sentenced Johnson after his guilty plea, the release said.
