Suspect in Jasper County killing charged; another at large
One of the two suspects wanted in connection with two separate killings in Jasper County last week has been apprehended, while the second suspect remains at large.
The U.S. Marshals Service and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office arrested 20-year-old Naijuwuan Chisholm just after noon Monday in Beaufort, according to a Sheriff's Office release. Chisholm, wanted in the shooting death of Sterling Jenkins in Hardeeville on June 9, was found hiding under a shed on 4th Street in the Polk Village neighborhood, the release said.
Chisholm was wanted on warrants for murder and possession of a weapon in the commission of a violent crime after the shooting death of the 23-year-old Jenkins at the Walsh Drive Apartments, Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward said last week.
Elsewhere in Jasper County, authorities are still searching for a Ridgeland man wanted in connection with a death in the Oak Hill area Saturday night.
Rashad Battiste is being sought by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Battiste is accused of killing 37-year-old Duwud Fletcher, also of Ridgeland. The Sheriff's Office and the S.C. Law Enforcement Division investigated the shooting, which happened on Oak Hill Road.
No new information about the shooting was available Monday.
