8th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest at Hunting Island State Park
Friends of Hunting Island hosted their 8th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest on Saturday afternoon at Hunting Island State Park.
There were 18 teams that participated in the event. "It's a way of getting families out to the beach at Hunting Island," Nancy Grimaldi, chairman of the sand sculpture contest, said.
The teams were broken up into four groups: the Sand Fleas, contestants up to 8 years old who have an adult leader, the Sand Hoppers, ages 9 to 15 years old, the Sand Tribes, families, the Sand Fantasies, familes with children age 7 and under, and the Sand Shapers, adults compteting alone or in a small team.
Judges selected a first and second place winner for each group and then selected one team as the best in show. The results from the contest are:
Sand Fantasies:
1st Place - Russell,& Megan Rothenburg Bryce, Jennifer & Liam Barnes Spartanburg, SC
Sand Shapers:
1st Place: Kelly Chelten and Linda Chelten
2nd Place: Jasmine Christian and Leland Christian
Sand Tribes:
1st Place Deann Palmer, Robert, Deann, Madisyn, Sydney, Mason, Sage
2nd Place: Molli Appling, Tom Page and Adele Page
Sand Hoppers:
1st Place: Aleah Seay, Concetta, Chloe, Olivia, Audrey, May, Thatia
2nd Place: Isabelle Lieblein and Nishta Ramasamy
Sand Fleas:
1st Place Linda and Shelby Tant and Elliott Clark
2nd Place: Warren and Roman Benjamin
Best In show: Girl Scout Troop 2711
